February 2017 Students of the Month
Congratulations to February’s Students of the Month!
Meet Meghan Palmisano, 12th Grade. She was nominated by Senora Palacios for her work in Spanish III. “Meghan is a model student; she comes to class prepared, and she is an extremely hard worker who excels at meeting academic challenges. She is a quiet student, but always an active listener.” Senora Palacios
Meet Raquel Nunez, 11th Grade. She was nominated by Mrs. Rogers for her work in AP Human Geography. “Raquel is a joy to teach because she expresses so much interest and curiosity about the subject. She adds insightful comments and questions to class discussions and makes connections to what we are learning about in class to real-world events, She is also very conscientious in her work. She even asks for assignments ahead of time so she can work ahead on the weekends.” Mrs. Rogers
Meet Teetouch Pounkate, 10th Grade. He was nominated for student of the month by Mr. Creech for his work in World History. “Teetouch exhibits a positive outlook and attitude in the classroom. His smile lights up the room! He has been a welcome addition to our De La Salle community.” Mr. Creech
Meet Leah Kennedy, 9th Grade. She was nominated as student of the month by Mrs. Ellis for her work in Religion I. “Leah is positive energy. Her vibrant personality and positive outlook make her a delight to teach. She is always prepared for class and is usually the first to answer a question. She is, also, a very respectful young lady.” Mrs. Ellis
Meet Adrianna Horne, 8th Grade. Adrianna was nominated as student of the month by Mr. Poree for her work in his Intro to Tech class. Adrianna was nominated due to her selfless dedication to seeing her classmates thrive in class. She has even offered copies of her notes to some of her classmates who struggle with note-taking. Adrianna is a joy to teach, and I’m sure her classmates would agree her “can do” attitude is quite infectious.

St. Joseph Altar
Calling all those with a special devotion to St. Joseph and those who desire to have a special devotion to St. Joseph!
It’s time to begin preparing for the 2017 St. Joseph Altar! St. Joseph’s feast day is Sunday, March 19th, so we will have our 12th annual altar on Monday, March 20th — only a few weeks away! Monetary donations are most welcome. The money will be used to place orders for specialty breads (hammer, nail, cross, crown of thorns, ladder, sandal, fish, bishop’s hat) and specialty cakes (Sacred Heart of Jesus cake, Bible cake, Cross cake, lamb cakes, and round cakes). You are also welcome to help with setting up the altar on Sunday, March 19th. And, of course, we will need all the items found on a traditional St. Joseph Altar — Italian cookies, memorial cakes, cakes to cut and serve, flowers, candles, holy cards, nuts, lemons, oranges, apples, bell peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, eggplant, potatoes, sago palms — just to name a few. If you have any statues or pictures that we could use to display on the altar, please let us know.
The St. Joseph Altar will be open Monday, March 20th, from 9:00 – 4:00. The 8th grade will perform the Tupa, Tupa and recite the Rosary at 11:30.
All are invited to participate – students, mothers, fathers, grandmothers, grandfathers, aunts, and uncles. Please call Marilyn Piglia D’Antoni at 504-503-7621 if you can donate in any way. Have a get-together with family and friends to bake Italian cookies for the altar! If you need Italian cookie recipes, just give us a call!
Viva San Giuseppi!
Thanks!

Thank you so much for your understanding in this matter.
We look forward to a joyous and dignified celebration of this wonderful class of Cavaliers.
