de-la-salle-letter

August 17th, 2016

Dear Parents:

Congratulations and thank you for your help in making this such a smooth start to the school year!

As we begin our first full week of school, I wanted to update you on some of the many things happening at De La Salle.  Again, I encourage you to constantly check our website, www.delasallenola.com, and check Edline for updates on these activities and our calendar.

Classes are off to a productive start, and the first round of tests and quizzes are surely on the way (if they haven’t happened already!)

We have already hosted our Big Brother / Big Sister Day on our campus this past Saturday.  This event links our older students to our younger students, and these connections truly strengthen the bonds between students that we so strongly hope to develop.  The day was a great success, and we commend our Director of Student Activities, Mr. Justin Martineau, on organizing and executing the event.

Level Assemblies and Principal’s Assembly, this week and next
Starting today and by the Wednesday of next week, we will have held Level Assemblies with each grade level, explaining our academic and disciplinary procedures, introducing our students to our guidance counselors, and encouraging their participation in both athletics and clubs.  Mr. Michael Giambelluca, our President, will also introduce himself to our students at a Principal’s Assembly next week.

Back to School Dance, Friday, August 19th, 7:30 pm – 11:00 pm
Our Student Council’s annual Back to School Dance will be held this Friday night in our cafeteria.  Students will be “locked in” to the dance from 8:00 pm to 10:30 pm.  Cost to attend the dance is $5.00, and only De La Salle students are permitted to attend this dance.  Students not picked up by their rides by 11:30 pm will be subject to disciplinary measures, including being prohibited from attending future dances.

Mini-Schedule Night, Wednesday, August 24th, 6:30 pm
Next Wednesday, August 24th, is our Mini-Schedule Night for ALL parents.  This night begins with a reception in the cafeteria at 6:30 pm and ends at 8:00 pm.   This is a “Meet the Teacher” night in which you will follow your child’s schedule for ten-minute “classes.”  This is NOT a Parent-Teacher conference, but an opportunity to meet your child’s teachers and hear a brief course overview.  The schedule for Mini-Schedule Night is posted at the conclusion of this letter.  Your child will bring home a copy of his or her schedule that day so that you can find his or her classrooms.

PLEASE BRING YOUR CHILD’S SCHEDULE ON THIS NIGHT SO THAT YOU CAN LOCATE HIS OR HER CLASSROOMS.

Senior Ring Mass, Friday, August 26th, 10:30 am, at Holy Name of Jesus Church
Friday, the 26th, is our Senior Ring Mass and Ceremony at Holy Name of Jesus Church.  The Mass begins at 10:30 am, and students will be dismissed from De La Salle at approximately 1:00 pm.  Buses will run after dismissal.  Boys must wear ties on this day, and seniors will report to and be dismissed from the church.  (Senior parents, see your Ring Mass letter on the website and on edline).

Club Week, August 29th-September 2nd
Please encourage your child to get involved in our school clubs.  During this week, we will run one-lunch schedules from Monday through Thursday, and club moderators will open their doors to prospective members.  Four different clubs will be available each day, and we will announce these clubs and post reminders throughout that week.  Please contact Mr. Justin Martineau at jmartineau@delasallenola.com if you have questions regarding this week.

Athletics
Our football, volleyball, and cross country teams are moving forward in their tryouts and pre-season workouts as they prepare for competition.  Swimming tryouts have also been announced.  Again, please encourage your children to become involved in the life of our school.

Thank you again for your cooperation and patience as our year begins.  I look forward to continually partnering with you and your child as the school year progresses.

Sincerely,

paulsig
