De La Salle

Office of the Principal

October, 2015

Dear Parents:

Happy Homecoming Week!  October is here, we are quickly approaching First Quarter Exams, and activities are piling up rapidly.  Here are a few major items on the horizon for De La Salle:

Homecoming Week

Homecoming Week begins today.  To celebrate, our students are permitted to “dress down” every day this week (following certain guidelines), we have contests during lunch and after-school activities, and the week culminates with our football game against KIPP at 7:00 pm on Friday night at Pan Am Stadium and our Homecoming Dance on Saturday night in the Superdome.  Please direct any questions to our front desk or Mr. Martineau at jmartineau@delasallenola.com.

FIRST QUARTER EXAMS

Our first quarter exams take place on Wednesday and Thursday of next week, October 14th and 15th.  Exams are weighted as either 20% or 25% of the student’s final grade.  Dismissal on exam days is at 11:00 am.  Please encourage your child to spend time preparing well in advance of his or her exam days.

No School for Students

Friendly reminder that there is no school for students on Friday, October 16th, due to a faculty in-service day.

Junior Retreats

Junior retreat letters have been handed to all of our juniors and mailed home to all junior parents.  The junior class has been divided into three separate groups, and each group will attend an after-school retreat on a Friday afternoon.  The first group will go on retreat on Friday, October 23rd.  Permission forms must be turned in to Mr. Behan before this date.  Please email him at tbehan@delasallenola.com if you have questions.

Extracurricular Activities

Please continue to support our extracurricular activities.  Football, volleyball, swimming, and cross country are in full swing.  La Troupe puts on its final performance of You Can’t Take It With You tonight, October 5th, at 7:30 pm in our theater.

Open House

The single most important admissions event, our Open House, takes place on our campus on Tuesday, November 3rd, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.  There will be a noon dismissal for students that day (although many of them will remain on campus to help with this event), and there will be no school for students the following day, Wednesday, November 4th.  Please encourage all family and friends with prospective high school students to attend this amazing event.

Annual Giving Drive

We have also kicked off our Annual Giving Drive in which we ask all who are associated with De La Salle (faculty/staff, alumni, parents, our board of trustees) to monetarily donate back to our school.   We thank you for your generosity in this endeavor.

Renovations

As many of you know, we are nearly finished painting and refurbishing our school lobby, and we will soon begin work on our first floor hallway.  We thank the Parents’ Club for their generosity in helping supply the funds for this project.  It has made a tremendous difference in our school’s interior appearance.

As always, we thank you for entrusting your children to us, and we look forward to a productive and exciting month. Take care, and may God bless you and yours.

Sincerely,

paulsig
