Dear Parents / Guardians,
As I conclude my second year of service here at De La Salle, I remain very proud of our students and the enthusiasm and presence they bring to our school. Each of our young people has so much to offer, and I treasure every opportunity to expand their involvement in our school’s activities, welcome their input and experiences, and look for every chance we can find to engage them in active learning about themselves, their studies, and their own capabilities as emerging leaders.
For these reasons, I am so pleased to offer you and our students an opportunity that will continue us on our march to greatness and give our students an incredible learning experience. We would like to invite you and your DLS student to join us for an informational session about an exciting international leadership and travel opportunity for your child: The Global Student Leadership Summit. An informational/enrollment meeting for parents and students will be held on Tuesday, May 20, from 6:00 – 7:00 pm in our Library.
In June of 2015, participating students will experience the following:
We will travel to Europe for the Global Student Leadership Summit.
At this summit, our students will join other young leaders from around the world to engage with one another and share ideas regarding the global education challenges of today—and tomorrow.
Past keynote speakers have included Vice President Al Gore, former U.S. Ambassador to China Jon Huntsman, Jr., and noted environmentalist Severn Cullis-Suzuki. Scheduled to speak at the 2015 Summit is Sir Kenneth Robinson. If you have a chance to look him up on YouTube, you’ll learn that he is the world’s leading expert on creativity and educational innovation.
This ten-day adventure is an immersive tour that explores some of the world’s most treasured European cities and culminates in the two-day leadership conference in Davos, Switzerland.
We have spent a great deal of time at DLS talking about innovation. Here is an opportunity for interested students to explore first-hand these issues, meet students from other countries, engage in an active problem-solving leadership conference, and earn high school or college credit. In addition, participation in such an event can only benefit your child during the college application and admission process.
At this time, participation in this trip is limited to 18-20 students. We anticipate an enthusiastic response and encourage interested students to attend the informational meeting and submit their applications by May 31.
Again, an informational/enrollment meeting for parents and students will be held on Tuesday, May 20, from 6:00 – 7:00 pm in our Library.
Please RSVP by May 16th by emailing Jessica Meehan at jmeehan@delasallenola.com
This is a once-in-a-lifetime educational experience. I hope you and your child can join us.
